Vintage Port - Single Bottle in Presentation Box
The 2011 Burmester Vintage Port Wine is, according to Kim Marcus (Wine Spectator), an "intensely fruity" wine with great complexity and concentration, notes of "raspberries, black plums and wild cherries." This wine offers a "refined finish" with a touch of "dark chocolate, tea and brown sugar." It is a wine that, according to the critic, is ready to drink but has the ability to continue ageing during the next three decades.
"The 2011 J W Burmester has a sweeter, comparatively floral bouquet with open, generous scents of ripe dates, black plum and raisin that need to show a little more restraint.

Vintage Port 6x75cl Bottle Case
These 2011 Vintage Port Wines from Burmester are bottled in the cellars at Vila Nova de Gaia during the second spring after the harvest; this has been the process since the beginning of the 20th century. Produced according to the traditional method of foot treading in classic stone "lagares", a Vintage is only declared in years of outstanding and exceptional quality.
The association of Vintage Port with a mature blue cheese such as Stilton is one of the great classic food and wine combinations. The soft buttery texture, mellow character and piquancy of the cheese are perfectly matched by the powerfully majestic flavours of the Vintage Port.

A 2009 vintage Port Wine from Burmester Port.
Markedly rich and rolling style, with soft fruit cake aromas, dried spices and peanut brittle. Crushed almonds coat the smooth red and black fruits on the palate, which finishes textural and warm.
Nice rich colour. Good viscosity, quite sweet, medium bodied. Not much in terms of complexity, but a nice nose/palate of roasted nuts & raisin. Everything else in balance.
Winemaking:
This port is made from old vines, being submitted to a careful ageing process in small oak casks.

Medoc, Cru Bourgeois
A 2011 vintage Bordeaux wine. This is the beauty of decent Cru Bourgeois Bordeaux if stored well - it makes demands on the taster (patience and consideration). Not a wine from those who prefer to 'pop and pour' who miss out on most of the quality and character.
The 2011 has a good rich colour - browning just a little at the rim. This bottle demands patience when opening as it needs time to develop. Good blackcurrant nose. Plum, damson on the palate with balancing blackcurrant acidity. Dusty tannins on the end palate at first but the tannin softened in the glass, even without food. With food it is excellent.

The 2011 Vintage Port Wine from Cockburn is distinctively fragrant with esteva (rockrose) on the nose, indicative of the substantial Touriga Nacional contribution to the final blend. In the mouth there is a wonderful, pure fruit quality (red cherries and strawberry) denoting the fresh acidity, which underpins the wine's structure and balance. A wine of great finesse and poise.
Cockburn's 2011 Vintage Port pairs wonderfully with chocolate desserts, such as chocolate mousse, creamy blue cheeses like Stilton or Roquefort.
"Great nose here with flowers, leaves and a wet earth character. Full body, lightly sweet with a massive finish.

Vintage Port DOUBLE MAGNUM 3.0L
This 2011 Vintage Port Wine from Croft is deep purple black in colour. The complex seductive nose has the archetypal Croft opulence but displays impressive depth, background and reserves of aroma. A rich, powerful fruitiness provides the backdrop for heady scents of blossom and rock rose. Luscious ripe berry fruit flavour surges though the palate. The wine’s velvety texture is underpinned by taut, muscular, perfectly integrated tannins, which provide stamina with an attractive firmness and vigour to the finish. More virile and structured than some recent Vintages from this classic house, the 2011 nevertheless displays all the rich ripe fruitiness and exotic scented character associated with the Croft house style.
