Vintage Port (in Gift Box with Decanting Funnell)
** 95 Points - James Suckling **
The near perfect viticultural conditions which prevailed in the Douro Valley in 2011 was bound to allow for great things in Croft's highly regarded Quinta da Roêda. This Quinta always forms the core around which Croft craft their Vintage Port blend, yet in this excellent year all of the blend's components have been sourced from here, producing a scented, exotic and lusciously opulent style. In the words of wine-maker David guimareans, the high perfomance of Quinta da Roêda gave this vintage 'an additional layer of density and depth of flavour' with silky, integrated tannins and powerful grip on the finish.

La Spinetta - Campè
"This is wild and exotic with dried flowers, earth, spice and berry character. Full-bodied, dense and decadent with ripe and round tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Fabulous depth. So delicious now but will improve with four to five years of bottle age."

Gigi Rosso - Riserva Ulivo
In the heart of our Arione Estate, an olive tree has survived cold Piedmontese winters for more than 100 years, a testament to the exceptional microclimate of this unique position. In the best vintages, grapes from the Ulivo vineyard (approximately 2 acres or 0.8 Ha) reach a degree of ripeness and intensity of perfume that give the wine its extraordinary bouquet. It is aged for more than four years in the barrel and then the bottle only in the fifth year can the wine legally become a Riserva. Approximately 3,900 bottles are produced (only in the best vintages).

The 2011 Burmester Vintage Port is, according to Kim Marcus (Wine Spectator), an "intensely fruity" wine with great complexity and concentration, notes of "raspberries, black plums and wild cherries." This wine offers a "refined finish" with a touch of "dark chocolate, tea and brown sugar." It is a wine that, according to the critic, is ready to drink but has the ability to continue ageing during the next three decades.
Reviews: "The 2011 J W Burmester has a sweeter, comparatively floral bouquet with open, generous scents of ripe dates, black plum and raisin that need to show a little more restraint.

Vintage Port 6x75cl Bottle Case
Since the beginning of the 20th century, all Vintages are bottled in the cellars at Vila Nova de Gaia during the second spring after the harvest. Produced according to the traditional method of foot treading in classic stone "lagares", a Vintage is only declared in years of outstanding and exceptional quality.
The association of Vintage Port with a mature blue cheese such as Stilton is one of the great classic food and wine combinations. The soft buttery texture, mellow character and piquancy of the cheese are perfectly matched by the powerfully majestic flavours of the Vintage Port. Other blue, buttery, mellow and slighty piquant cheeses to consider would be: Cashel Blue, Roquefort, Gorgonzola and Saint Agur Blue.

With exceptional 92 points, 2011 Cálem Vintage Port is a wine that, according to Kim Marcus, of Wine Spectator, reveals flavours of "black plums, blackberries and cherries" that "vibrate on the palate" with intense notes of "dark chocolate and spices." This Vintage Port suggests a "powerful control", the result of nobles and "structured tannins", extending the finish. According to Kim Marcus, this is a Vintage Port that follows the "traditional style of wines that need time," and recommends drinking it ideally after 2018.

Fifty years. A half-century after the legendary 1961 vintage, this year’s wine stood out for its extremely low yields, the result of hail, and, in June, extreme heat. The concentrated result was both beautiful and unexpected, which should herald excellent aging potential.
The opaque blue/purple-colored 2011 Palmer reveals a stunning bouquet of licorice, truffles, camphor, spring flowers, black raspberries and black currants. One of the superstars of the vintage, this brilliant 2011 possesses superb concentration and purity, medium to full body, and remarkable length of close to a minute.

Opulence meets fresh acidity. Unctuous on the palate and heavier than its classic style with 150gm per litre of residual sugar, but the firm acidity balances the sweetness well. A powerful wine that will age for decades.
